Here are the player ratings from the Round 5 fixture of the 2020 Tri-Nations tournament. A couple of things stand out to me:
1. When the game is one-sided on the scoreboard, there aren’t many insights that will be discovered using advanced analytics. Basically, if you can see the difference by watching the game, there is no need to look for nuances that can be found in the data.
2. Will Jordan definitely provided an impact from the bench! In 15 minutes he created more carry metre EPA than everyone else on the All Blacks. I included the calculation for his EPA_80 just to show how off the scale his performance would be if it was normalized to 80 minutes.
